A Trip to the Zoo

Posted: June 24, 2011 in Abstracts, Creativity, Photos

It’s been a quiet month for postings – my apologies… However..lots has been going on at this end (all good stuff) including the incubation of several ideas I’ll be sharing more about on the site soon… So watch this space 🙂

Last weekend, we went for a nice day out to Twycross Zoo (Its the world no. 1 place for primates you know !! So if you like monkeys, chimps, apes and other animals too, then its a great place to visit)

And of course as you might imagine, the camera was with me and plenty of animal pictures were taken…

However, I also started looking around with my “abstracts” eye (after seeing some very nice abstract art drinks coasters in the gift shop!) and took these:

(if you click on each one, you’ll see a bigger version):

I had a lot of fun taking them and also editing them afterwards… (another enjoyable part of the creative process)

And… just in case you thought I avoided the residents of the zoo…. here’s one sending his greetings to you 🙂

Why not try the postcode challenge at some point over the next week (5 photos, 30 mins, in your postcode area) BUT this time looking for abstract patterns that appeal to you… Post them up on the flickr site and lets see them !!

I’ve just been reviewing the photos added to the flickr group in the last few weeks and I’m loving the range of pictures people are posting. And moreover, it’s fascinating reading the accompanying descriptions and comments. It’s so interesting to see the kinds of things people are drawn to photograph. Of course the postcode location has something to do with it but not everything…

Take this picture from Soozi HL – It’s a shot of her local school.

Soozi says “I took the shot because I liked the straight white lines and the Cornish flag poking through the trees”. I think it’s brilliant how she stopped to think what might be interesting about this familiar (to her) building rather than just walk on by. Personally, I also love the contrast between the deep blue and white colours.

Here’s something completely different from Helen Clare:

Helen captioned this shot as “Who knows what’s around the corner”. She was thinking more of a theme to the shot… what it brought to mind… a different reason for taking the picture and equally compelling. Any thoughts, by the way, on what’s around the corner, please let us know … in words or photos!

There are plenty of other examples in the flickr group pool, so do take a look and keep them coming !!

We’re Off !!

The doors open today to the Postcode Photo Challenge …

…. and what nice weather to start us off this weekend !!

Flickr group site is up and running and ready to receive your fabulous pictures. They’ll be fab whatever they’re photos of,  because they’re interesting to YOU and thats what counts.

So…… why not try out the challenge?

See if you can grab 5 photos from somewhere in your postcode area (or wherever you are right now – maybe you are away from home at the moment?) and lets see ’em 🙂

Further details on the home page and over on flickr

Look forward to seeing your world !

Getting Nearer

Posted: March 27, 2011 in Camera, Community, Creativity, Photos, Postcode

Final preparations are taking place…… launching very soon…

In the meantime… some things to think about :

  • Do you have a camera – big or small, simple or complex?
  • Do you use it very often? Or maybe just on holidays / special events?
  • Would you like to have some fun with it and try something a bit different?
  • How do you feel or would you feel if someone says “WOW” when they see one of your photos?
  • Would you like to join a community of like-minded people?

More on the way… Come back soon ….
